Make a Grapefruit Face Mask

Grapefruit makes a refreshing antiseptic and astringent base for a homemade facial mask. This homemade facial mask recipe costs only a dollar or two to prepare at most and takes about five minutes to whip up. While a grapefruit mask is best suited to treating oily or acne-prone skin, this also makes a stimulating pick-me-up no matter what your skin type. Apply the mask once or twice a week for best results, storing any unused portions in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed container for up to two days.

Step 1

Crack one egg in half and carefully separate the yolk from the white, sliding the unbroken yolk into a small bowl while the egg white goes into a separate bowl. Discard the yolk.

Step 2

Beat the egg white with an egg beater or mixer until it's fluffy; this can also be done by hand with a fork, but it's a lot of work.

Step 3

Slice a small grapefruit in half and squeeze the juice into a small bowl. You need 1 tsp. juice for the mask.

Step 4

Add 1 tsp. sour cream and the grapefruit juice to the egg white mixture. Blend well with the egg beater or mixer, or use a fork, until the mixtures reaches a light, creamy consistency.

Step 5

Apply the mask and leave in place for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse your face clean with warm water and pat dry.
